Police and Security Officers Death Toll Rises

January 30, 2026

Charlotte NC June 3 2018

The month of May ended on a violent note for the security industry just as the year continues speeding toward one of the deadliest for front-line protectors.

As of today, 41 security officers have been killed just doing their job.

That’s a 31% increase over this time last year.

As of June 1st, 26 security officers have died from gunshots and four from knife attacks.

Law enforcement too has seen a rise in the number of officers killed so far in 2018.

Currently, 65 police officers have lost their life with 28 being shot to death and 6 others dyeing from felonious assaults.

In 2017, 46 officers total died of gunfire while 16 others were killed during violent attacks.

There were also 140 suicides of police officers in 2017

For the security industry, it should be a rude awakening as to the potential dangers of any contract, assignment or geographical location.

Especially as security moves more into the proactive duties and accounts that have higher public interactions, known crime, gang and drug areas and duties that include any form of enforcement.
